Budget developer laptop
In the year 2018, I wrote an article —Budget iOS / Swift developer desk. It has been over 3 years and a lot of things have changed since then. The iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011) at my home is on 10.13.6 (macOS High Sierra). It works fine, I am writing this article using it. But there are several software which are not being providing updates to this version of macOS. So I decided to invest in a laptop. I had the opportunity to buy a MacBook Air Early 2015 model for 200€. So I purchased it, thinking that it will at least get the new 12.0 (macOS Monterey). Also the mobility feature which will enable me to carry this laptop to other meetups in Berlin or other areas.
I previously had an HP Pavilion dv5 laptop. It was working fine on Windows 7 and the Window 8 was also working fine with few exceptions. As part of up-cycling my old unused hardware and giving them new life. I sold it off for second hand in 2020 for 60€. I could have given it for free. The reason for giving it for a price so the purchaser could use it and not throw it away.
This is how it looks,
Since it is a second hand laptop, there are some minute things that look a bit used. Overall it is fine to be used for next three to four years.
* Intensive tasks may not suitable for this laptop.
* Intel real sense camera is not supported and the Intel real sense SDK won’t work.
* No HDMI port
* Support to dual display is only possible using a Dell D3100 Dock
Purchase your laptop according to your needs and your budget. For me spending 200€ on a macOS laptop was fine as the airdrop from my iPhone 12 is not supported on iMac which I have and other small things are making a difference for me through this MacBook Air.
