Stock market experience of merging companies APHA with TLRY

I started using the platform DEGIRO following the suggestion from a co-worker. It took me almost six months to make this decision.

Joining DEGIRO will not make you invest in stocks directly. You need pass the quiz exams that are in place to make sure you have a good understanding of stock market trading and also the investor risks involved in it.

Note: DEGIRO Referral link will only give me 20€ after three months you have joined them.

Background: It was during the 2020 lock-down relaxation event in Berlin, GERMANY that I was asking my co-worker on what are the financial opportunities since the interest on the savings account in Germany is very low as 0.01%. Which is not useful to even payback the yearly bank charges.

Experience: I had purchased two stock of ticker: APHA on the platform DEGIRO in February 2021. The stock was showing a positive improvement. Suddenly in April 30 there was a merger of APHA into ticker: TLRY. Which created a automatic selling of the stocks and there was no commission fee charged on them. And I was given one share of TLRY by the automatic purchase since the APHA stocks are no longer listed on the stock exchange. There was no commission fee charged on them.

After a couple days, I started checking my portfolio on DEGIRO to check if I had lost any money or not. For that I had to make a manual analysis myself on how much money I lost in total from the automatic selling of the two shares and how much money is now invested in the automatic purchase of the new stock. Why I had to do the automatic conversion because my purchases were made in EUR and the stocks were purchased in USD. In between there were currency conversion charges and also commission fees from the initial purchase of APHA.

Since I was holding the stocks on a long position the APHA purchase was a failure and lost some money. Now I had to wait for the TLRY stock to increase in price in order to get the lost money.

My advise for people is to always pay attention to the news if you are investing in stocks. No matter if you hold one or more stocks.
